Monte Argentario is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the Tuscan Maremma.

Located on its eastern shores, Porto Ercole is a maritime village that stands on the eastern side of the Monte Argentario promontory, located approximately an hour away from the Terme di Saturnia, on the Maremma hills.

The town looks like a medieval town, among the streets of its historic center there are buildings and constructions that tell its history, from the most ancient times, up to the domination of the Spanish, from the Republic of Siena up to the dominion of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.

The historic center of the village of Porto Ercole houses monuments of great importance:

Palace of the Rulers which, built in the 16th century, served as the residence of the governors of the Spanish State of the Garrisons
Church of Sant’Erasmo, the main religious building of the town, guardian of the tombs of the governors and according to legend, also of the remains of Caravaggio, who met his death here
Corsini Garden, next to the villa from which it takes its name, it is a botanical garden that hosts numerous plant varieties, both spontaneous local and tropical
Fortress, built during the Middle Ages and modernized in Renaissance style
Walls of Cinta, which was built by the Sienese
Clock Tower, which dominates the only access gate to the fortified city

To testify to the greatness of the town under the dominion of the Spanish Garrison State, some defense fortifications still stand today, we are talking about Fort Santa Caterina and Fort Filippo, both built in the 16th century, and Fort Stella, which owes its name to its shape , with six points, was created in 1500.
