The climate of this area of Tuscany it is always mild and pleasant, the winters are never particularly cold and the warmth of the sulphurous thermal water will warm even the coldest days, ideal for spending a pleasant winter day immersed in the warm waters of Saturnia, pampered by the slow flow of the water and benefiting from the incredible properties of these extraordinary waters.

You can choose to spend the New Year’s in the splendid setting of Mulino waterfalls and experience a day of relaxation and well-being, in one of the most beautiful and fascinating places in Tuscany, then in the evening, you can reach the village of Saturnia in a few minutes – which gives its name to the spa – and experience the last evening of the year taking part in the traditional celebrations.

In Saturnia it is in fact traditional to organise, on New Year’s Eve, among markets, stalls and live music, the inevitable “Focarazza”, a pile of wood in the central square “Piazza Vittorio Veneto” which is set on fire during the evening. We then all watch together the spectacle of the flames rising towards the sky, dancing and celebrating the new year.

The Focarazza ritual in Saturnia has very ancient origins that come from the famous “Saturniali” during which parties, banquets and celebrations were dedicated to the god Saturn, god of abundance to ensure a generous harvest the following year.

Even today these rites are very suggestive and in particular in Saturnia, where water and fire come together in a thousand-year-old tradition…
